Richer lives through horses!

Great Horse Quotes

Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down
like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion." Emerson

When I can't ride anymore, I shall keep horses as long as I can hobble
along with a bucket and wheelbarrow. When I can't hobble, I shall roll
my wheelchair out by the fence of the field where my horses graze, and
watch them." ~Monica Dickens

One of the earliest religious disappointments in a young girl's life
devolves upon her unanswered prayer for a horse. --Phillis Theroux

Dressage: the passionate pursuit of perfection by the obsessively
imperfect

One man's wrong lead is another's counter-canter

"You cannot train a horse with shouts and expect it to obey a whisper."
- Dagobert D Runes

"When your horse has reached its potential, leave it. It's such a nice
feeling when you and your horses are still friends." - Reiner Klimke

"Riding is a quest, not a conquest." - Charles deKunffy

"The horses will ever remain our true and ultimate judges; let us
always listen to them." - Erik Herbermann

"He moved like a dancer, which is not surprising; a horse is a
beautiful animal, but it is perhaps most remarkable because it moves as
if it always hears music."
--Mark Helprin, "Winter's Tale"

Heels down and head up, knees down and Heart up, Ankles close to your
horse's side, elbows close to your own.

It is the difficult horses that have the most to give you.
- Lendon Gray

no explanation is possible"

HORSE MADNESS
   http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZCxdm565MOUS

Why do I like horses?
I reckon I must be mad.
My mother wasn't horsey
And neither was my dad.

But the madness hit me  early
And it hit me like a curse.
And I've never  gotten better
In fact, I've gotten worse.

My stables are immaculate.
My house is like a hovel.
Last year for my birthday
I got a brand new shovel.

I hardly read a paper
But I know who's sold  their horse
And I wouldn't watch the news
If Mr. Ed  was on, of course.

One eye's always on the  heavens
But my washing waves in vain
As I rush to get  the horses in
In case it's gonna rain.

And though they're wearing 15 rugs,
The best that you can  get,
I bring them in to keep them dry
While I get  soaking wet.

I spend up every cent I've got
On horsey stuff for sure.
I buy fancy rugs and fancy  rugs,
And then I by some more.

I should  have had that hair cut
Or bought that nice blue shirt
At least it wouldn't be now
Ripped to shreds and in the dirt.

I can't make a bloody sponge cake
I don't even try
But I can back a truck and trailer
In  the twinkling of an
eye

It's pants and riding boots
That I live in night and day
And that smell of sweaty horses
Just doesn't wash away.

Once in every now and then
I can dress up for a ball.
Make up and a hairdo
With high heel shoes and all.

I ache from long forgotten falls.
My knees have got no skin.
My toes have gone a funny shape.
From being squashed again.

But late at night, when all is still
And I've gone to give them hay,
I touch their velvet softness
And my worries float away.

They give a gentle nicker
And they nuzzle through my hair
And I know it's where my heart is
More than anywhere.

"Two Wolves "
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.
One is Evil
It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good.
It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather:
"Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied,
"The one you feed."

The aim in dressage is complete harmony between rider and horse - quite simply, beauty. Then the horse looks relaxed and at ease and there is nothing in his rider's demeanor to show the effort he has had to make.

- Willhelm Museler

There are no bad horses, only bad taining.

- Reiner Klimke

Straightness, rhythm and the size of the steps - if you can control these three things, you are on a good way to higher-level movements.

- Olympian Jan Brink

"Bad impressions caused by hurried training methods, oftentimes cannot be erased in months. With a few days of patience, they could have been avoided altogether." - E. F.

Seidler

"Contrary to popular belief, horses do not get bored with basic work. If the rider demands exact responses, paying close attention to detail and quality, neither horse nor rider will have time to get bored, rather, a true sense of accomplishment will be gained." - Erik F.

Herbermann

"If a horse is asked too many times to perform a certian movement, which is especially difficult for him, he will eventually become afraid of it and refuse to execute it altogether, which would not have occurred to him if the rider had proceeded with moderation during a phase in which execution is still very difficult for the horse, and if he had increased the demands only incrementally.

" - Borries Von Oeynhausen

Ten reasons I wear a helmet :

10. I enjoy being ambulatory. It is fun to move my limbs about freely.

9. I already have trouble remembering things.

8. The new helmets come in great colors, they're light, and they work.

7. I don't want to re-learn how to feed myself.

6. Riding bare-headed is not cool.

5. Longevity is cool.

4. I don't have a living will.

3. I like having fine motor skills more than having coiffed hair.

2. I want to support therapeutic riders, not be one.

1. afraid of wheelchairs.

When I am an old Horsewoman
- author unknown -

when I am an old horsewoman
I shall wear leather
I shall wear turquoise and diamonds
and a straw hat that doesn't suit me
and I shall spend my social security
on red wine and carrots
and sit in the alleyway of my barn
and listen to my horses breathe.
I will sneak out in the middle of the night
and ride the old gray appy mare
across the moonstruck meadow
if my old bones will allow.
and when people come to call
I will smile and nod
as I walk past the garden to the barn
and show instead of flowers,
stalls fresh lined with straw.
I will shovel and sweat
and wear hay in my hair as if it were jewels.
and I will be an embarrassment to all
who will have not yet found the peace
in being free to have a horse as a best friend;
a friend who waits at midnight hour with muzzle and nicker and patient eyes
for the kind of woman I will be
...when I am old

The Warmth of a Horse.....

When your day seems out of balance
And so many things go wrong.
When people fight around you,
And the day drags on so long...

When parents act like children
In-Laws make you think "Divorce,"
Go out into your pasture...
Wrap your arms around your horse.

His gentle breath enfolds you,
As he watches with those eyes...
He may not have a Ph.D.,
But he is oh, so wise!

His head rests on your shoulder
You embrace him good and tight;
He puts your world in balance,
And makes it seem all right.

Your tears will soon stop flowing,
The tension is now eased.
The garbage has been lifted
You'll be quiet and at peace.

So when you need the balance
From circumstances in your day
The best therapy you can seek-
Is out there chomping hay!

God's best designers,
as a matter of course,
did their best work
when designing the horse.

From the tip of his ears
to the arch of the crest,
the withers, the back,
the croup and the rest.

A proud horse in motion
Is a beautiful sight
That warms the heart
And fills the eyes with delight.

And, nowhere in nature
is there a beast
as beautiful and useful
as the horse in his least.

So it makes me believe,
Though He has much to do,
That in His spare time,
God is a Horseman, too.
